Cosplay photography at Katsucon
I'm Jeff Jenkins, a Maryland-based cosplay and creative-portrait photographer. Katsucon is the anime con closest to my new home base, my badge is already bought, and this will be my first year shooting it. I'm planning pre-booked sessions across the weekend: a reserved block of my time, a scouted location, and lighting built around your build rather than whatever the hallway happens to be doing.
An anime con built for costume craft
Katsucon runs out of the Gaylord National at National Harbor, on the Potomac just south of DC, and the venue is a large part of why photographers go. The glass atrium, the tiered balconies, the marble, and the waterfront immediately outside give you real light and real backdrops without ever leaving the hotel, which is rare for a February con. The costuming crowd knows it, and the build quality that turns up reflects that.
That makes it the right place to run proper sessions rather than hallway grabs. I block out windows across the weekend, scout locations ahead of the show, and bring off-camera lighting so armor, wigs, and fabric read the way they do in person. We talk through the character, the shot list, and anything the costume physically will not let you do before I ever raise the camera.
This is my first year shooting Katsucon, so the calendar is still being built. Spots are limited by event hours, and the notify list below is the fastest way to hear when booking opens.

How a Katsucon session works
Get on the list
Leave your email below. When the Katsucon calendar opens, the list hears first, before anywhere else.
Plan the session
We lock a time, talk through the character and the shot list, and I pick a location at the venue that suits the build.
Shoot and deliver
Your block is yours. Edited images come back in a private gallery you can download in full resolution, typically within about 20 business days.
